Practice
In practice, Winda shows you the cards that are due, one at a time. You say whether you remembered each one, and your answer decides when that card comes back.
The daily session
Start practice begins the day’s session. Winda chooses the cards: everything that is due, and nothing else. A session can cover all your cards or one folder.
Every answer is saved and sets the card’s next date. Winda saves each answer as you give it, so you can stop halfway without losing anything. The cards you did not reach stay due.
This is the one thing in Winda you need to do every day. When the count reaches zero, you are finished until tomorrow.
Preview
Preview goes through every card in a folder or from one piece of content, due or not. Use it the night before an exam, or any time you want to see a whole subject at once instead of the few cards that are due today.
A preview changes nothing. Your answers are not saved, no card’s next date moves, and the same cards are still due when you finish. It is extra practice, not a replacement for the daily session.
How the schedule works
Winda schedules cards with spaced repetition. The idea is simple: you remember something for longer if you are asked about it just before you forget it. So a card you keep getting right should come back less and less often.
You have two answers, and that is the whole grading:
- Knew it makes the next gap longer: about two days the first time, then a week or two, then months, and eventually years.
- Forgot brings the card back later in the same session, after the cards you have not seen yet, and it keeps coming back until you answer Knew it. The gap then starts growing again from near the beginning, however long it had become before.
Here is one card that you answer Knew it every time:
| Answer | Comes back after |
|---|---|
| 1st | 2 days |
| 2nd | 11 days |
| 3rd | 6 weeks |
| 4th | 5 months |
| 5th | a year and a half |
| 6th | almost 4 years |
Answer Forgot on that last one and the card comes back later in the same session, and then in about a week instead of years.
